Start with what you want to change. Root colour targets regrowth. Global colour works across the hair. Grey blending aims to soften the contrast of grey with the surrounding colour; full coverage aims for a more uniform result. These are different goals, so explain your preferred finish before choosing a service name.

Which Appointment Fits Your Goal?

Grey Blending Is Not The Same As Full Coverage

Some clients want the grey concealed; others prefer a softer transition without one uniform shade. Your natural base, how much grey is visible and where it appears affect the plan. A technique chosen to blend grey is not a promise to cover every grey strand.

Wella Professionals’ grey-hair guide explains how coverage and blending differ across starting colours. Discuss the intended result with your colourist rather than assuming the darkest shade or lightest highlights are automatically the right choice.

What To Send Before Booking

  1. A clear photo of your roots and another showing the full hair length.
  2. Your reference look, with the details you want explained.
  3. Previous salon colour, box dye, henna, lightening or chemical treatments.
  4. Whether you want fuller grey coverage or some grey left visible.
  5. How often you expect to return for upkeep.

Confirm any patch or strand testing required before the appointment. Tell the salon about previous product reactions when planning colour.

Common Questions

Does Balayage Automatically Cover Grey Roots?

No. Balayage describes colour placement. Root coverage or a separate blending plan needs discussion. Read our balayage-versus-highlights guide.

Does Root Colour Include A Full-Head Refresh?

Do not assume it does. Root colour targets regrowth; work through the lengths needs its own agreed plan and quote.

What Should My Colour Quote Include?

Ask about colour or lightening, any toner, treatment, cut, styling and VAT. Confirm correction work and any staged appointments separately.
