Keratin, Protein or Hair Botox? A Dubai Salon Guide
If you are comparing keratin, protein and hair Botox treatments in Dubai, start with the result you want: easier styling, less frizz, a smoother finish or conditioning for hair that feels dry and rough. Then ask which exact product and process the salon recommends.

These names are a starting point. They do not tell you everything about the formula, heat involved, effect on your curls or suitability for previously coloured hair. Two appointments with similar names can involve different products and give different results.
What do the treatment names mean?
Keratin treatment
On salon menus, keratin commonly describes a smoothing service. It may involve a solution applied to the hair, followed by drying and heat processing. The goal is usually smoother, more manageable hair, but the degree of texture change depends on the system and application.
Even an individual manufacturer’s service can offer different smoothing options. KERASILK’s keratin service, for example, distinguishes stronger shape control from surface-frizz refinement. That is why you should ask what your proposed appointment is designed to change.
Protein treatment
Protein is an ingredient category, not a complete description of a salon service. Protein-containing masks and conditioning products exist alongside services marketed with similar names. Kérastase’s protein-containing mask, for example, is a rinse-out treatment.
Ask whether the recommended service is conditioning care or a heat-processed smoothing system. Do not assume that the word “protein” means it will straighten your hair, preserve every curl or suit any level of damage.
Hair Botox
At BellaPharma, hair Botox refers to a cosmetic hair-conditioning service. It is not an injectable botulinum-toxin treatment, and there are no needles involved.
The name alone does not establish the ingredients, whether heat is used or how much smoothing to expect. Ask to see the exact product and discuss the finish you want before deciding.
Choose around your hair and your routine
Make your main goal clear during consultation:
- “I want less frizz but still want to wear my curls.” Ask how the proposed service may affect your natural texture.
- “My hair feels rough after colouring.” Share your colour history and ask whether conditioning care or another approach is more appropriate.
- “I want a much straighter finish.” Ask what is realistically achievable and what maintenance that result involves.
- “I swim or wash my hair frequently.” Discuss whether the recommended aftercare fits your routine.
A photograph helps explain your goal. It cannot confirm the condition of every section or replace the stylist’s assessment.
Tell the salon about colour and previous treatments
Mention bleach, highlights, box dye, henna, relaxers and previous smoothing treatments, including approximate dates. Say if your hair is breaking or your scalp is irritated.
Ask how the proposed treatment fits around your next colour appointment and whether a strand assessment is appropriate. Do not assume that colour and smoothing should happen together, or book several chemical services without discussing their sequence.
Ask about ingredients and heated application
Some smoothing products contain or release formaldehyde when heated. The FDA advises customers to ask about ingredients, product instructions and the Safety Data Sheet. Not all smoothing products contain formaldehyde.
Ask which product will be used, whether it releases formaldehyde during heating and what precautions its instructions require. OSHA notes that a “formaldehyde-free” label alone may not establish whether exposure can occur. A treatment name, including “protein” or “Botox,” is not a safety guarantee.
Tell your stylist about previous reactions. If you have health concerns about a proposed product, discuss them with a qualified healthcare professional before proceeding.
Compare the whole appointment
Before booking, ask for the treatment name and full quote for your hair length and density. Check whether washing, finishing, additional care and VAT are included.
Also ask about appointment time, the expected result for your starting point and the product-specific aftercare. Washing instructions and expected wear can differ between systems. There is no useful universal promise that every keratin, protein or hair Botox treatment lasts the same number of months.
Common questions
Which treatment is best for frizzy hair?
Start with the finish you want and the condition of your hair. Ask the stylist to explain why the proposed product and process fit those goals.
Will I keep my curls?
That depends on the treatment and application. If keeping your curl pattern matters, say so before the service is selected.
Can I have a treatment on coloured hair?
Previous colour does not answer suitability by itself. The exact product, previous processing and current hair condition need to be considered together.
How much does it cost at BellaPharma?
Ask for a quote for the specific treatment and your hair. The starting price for a conditioning mask is not a keratin, protein or hair Botox quote.
